Right-click an empty part of your desktop to switch between grid and free placement. “Arrange icons” tidies the layout. Existing accounts initially keep free placement; new accounts start with a grid. Kali and PowerShell remember separate arrangements.
Folders and shortcuts
“New folder” creates a real desktop folder, also available under ~/Desktop in Files & Software. Drag files or app icons into it. Nested folders are supported. Empty a folder before deleting it.
“Add app shortcut” places an app icon. Moving or removing a shortcut does not uninstall the application; it remains available in the launcher. Unread mail and patchnotes also appear on the folder containing their shortcut.
Move files between the desktop and Files & Software. Transfers from other servers still need a connection and run as tasks. A full disk reset also erases real desktop files.
Without a mouse
Tab and arrow keys select icons; Enter opens them. Shift+F10 opens the context menu. rebels desktop list and Get-TRDesktop show desktop contents. mkdir ~/Desktop/Projects and New-Item -Path C:\Users\Player\Desktop\Projects -ItemType Directory create folders. help desktop lists layout and shortcut commands.
